done this before on my old car, cant remember if i need to send the v5 away though

how long does it take as wanting to sell car soon

I should imagine so, because the V5 has the registration on it. Be it private or not.

v5 needs to go yes

if you've got thee transfer form their it should say on the back

Mine took about 8 weeks But I didn't go the the local office- I sent the form, cheque and V5 by post. Then they sent the new tax disk out with the new reg number (likely to be the numberplate that was originally on the car beforehand) and then about 2-3 weeks the new V5 is sent out to you (so about 10weeks all together- hindsight I should have gone to the local office to speed things up a bit)
