what is illegal about them above though? no silly gay font and the text seems fine. the plates aren't 3/4 size. vegasphil has a 3/4 front plate.

The font isn't full size so they're illegal. The only road legal plates you'll get from FancyPlates or anywhere else are full size text.

ANYTHING that differs from the standard plates issued with the car are considered 'illegal' in the name of the law.

However, the possibility of you getting stopped/fined/humped depends on A. How strict your local Police are, B. How far from standard the plates are.

Kind of up to you really. If you think you will get away with it, go for it.

Whether thay look any better than standard plates, however, is up to you.

3D lettering is legal as long as it's the correct font and size. You can also get legal pressed plates, as long as the background is the right colour, plain, and reflective with the correct font.
