Hi guys,

Got in from uni today to find a nice notice of prosecution for 50mph in a 30 zone

My own fault i know and very stupid but I was wondering if anyone else had been in a similar situation and what the likely outcome is?? got to return the form in the morning to confirm I was driving. £60 and 3 points?

If it's going to court then costs as well.

Read the notice - they'll either be inviting you there or asking you to settle beforehand. If the latter option is available then take it and you won't have costs in that case.

all the letter say is that i need to confirm i was driving and return it...it says that once its returned i'll be considered for a fixed penalty notice

But it doesnt actually say whether it'll be fixed penalty or court on the letter ive got

Ouch! You'd be lucky to only get £60 fine and 3 points.

50mph is the cut off for a court summons, in a 30 limit.

Your looking at 4 points, a fine & court costs.

yeh ive know most cases over 45 to go to court as ur nearly double the speed limit which is seen as rather bad, id expect 6 points and a fine if i were u, and court costs will be around 50 quid give or take a few

i did 53 in a 30 and got 6 points and lost my licence and made to re-take my test, but it was because i had been driving less than 2 years,

i got a court somons through and had to confirm it was me driving.

Ask for proof, say you can't remember who was driving IF someone else is named on your insurance. Not sure what it'll achieve, but is worth a shot.

I got the letter asking me to confirm I was driving.
Then got another letter with 3 options :
1. £60 + speed awareness course
2. £60 + 3 points
3. Contest it in court.

I was doing 85mph in a 70.

Will be a bit shite if you can't get to Uni and back though makes me realise how much I shouldn't speed!
