. . .Zurich via Endlseigh basically.

I currently pay £780ish for my insurance. 12v, 19, 0NCB, 1 at fault accident, alloys w/locking nuts less than £500, fully comp, commuting, lovely.

I want to lower my car, just -40mm on springs. So, I ring up and ask them how much extra it'll be.

"We'll have to refer this to our technical department sir. We'll call back in 4 hours". Fine. 6 hours later, no call. Ring up, it's still with the technical department.

Call up again today, and finally get an answer at 4pm.

"The current policy you're under won't cover any modifications such as this. What we can do for you though, is get a price on another policy, which means cancelling your existing one". I thought fine, money won't really exchange hands because it's all through Endsleigh, and I'd only lose about 1 months NCB for this year. "Please hold". Fine.

Off hold. "We've got a new policy in line for you sir. And with the 2 modifications, exactly the same policy details apart from that, it will cost about £2000".

So that's £1.3k in effect extra, to lower my car

As you can probably guess, I declined their kind offer.

Sadly, now I doubt have the spare cash to cancel that policy and take out another allowing me to lower, so I'll have to forget that idea.

But £1.3k extra

What's more ironic. My insurance last year (year of my crash) was with Zurich. My renewal was £1600. I go with Endsleigh and the actual provider is Zurich, £700

Mate they all talk shit insuarnace companies.

My company said they will not insure modifications full stop.

I used to work in insurance so i know the score and went and had a full ss zorst fitted anyway.

Phoned them up told them about it and they insured it, added extra value to the car and charged me nothing.

Im not saying to do the same thing but it makes you think.

When getting quotes online on the Endsleigh website, I was actually getting similar prices i.e. £2k. BUT I thought by taking out the policy with only alloy modification which made no difference, then a few months later i.e. now wanted to add the modification, it might be cheaper, but no.

Same situation as i was in, Deano, sucks doesnt it, my last didnt insure ANY modifications at all.
And IIRC you have the same view as me, why have insurance paid for and then modify your car so it is void.

I had to wait a long time to get mine lowered -35mm i didnt want to cancel my existing policy either cause i wanted my years NCB.

You will get there......one day........one day

Its also the way you ask as well, phonning your insurer and saying ' yea wanna get me corsa slammed on the ground init' is going to make an insurer shit his self and tell you to F off.

However phoning up and saying ' i need to get some new suspension for my car, the garage have given me a quote for the normal vauxhall suspension fitted, however they said for the same amount they can fit non vauxhall suspension thats actully better and improves the handleing. The garage have just advised me ring to check this is ok'

IMO pplaying dumb can work wonders.

I did this with the SS zorst i mentioned above and a day later i had my docs re-issued with the all important 'non standard zorst system' clearly stated on my policy docs.

I guess I could have said it like that. I did only say that I wanted to lower the suspension -40mm. I might take that stance when this saved policy is erased from the system

£2095.80 with no mods.

and that isn't with my 3 points!!!

hmmmm insurance is shocking - i'm not even on the road.. well am on a scooter.. currently paying £121 a year for that.
