Looking at getting one of these as my next car i think. I know most people will say get the turbo version, but i think insurance is going to be enough as it is. What are they like? I know a few people have them on here, and what problems do you get with them?

if your looking for a 2.2 n/a you cant go very wrong with this one. we have done a service on it here and the lad is a very good mate of dan who works here.
it is cat d but it had the whole front clam shell replaced as you have to if the front gets damaged. imo this car is a bargain.

Was just about to say price is a bit more realistic than when I was looking recently but hadn't seen the cat d.

When you look at it as 8k for a 6 year old write off it's not so appealing.

Why aren't vx220's very popular? They're not dear really are they? Do the general public just not like them? - Genuine question.

Right here goes. I've owned my 2.2 VX since April and I love it. It can be used everyday although after around 1 hour of driving my back does begin to get a bit numb

Its not unusual for a VX to have a high number of owners, a lot of people buy them and quickly realise that this isn't the car for them.

The engine mounts are a common problem and cost around £150 to have them replaced. Also make sure that all of the re-calls have been done, this also shows signs of the car being well looked after.

Power wise - it does 0-60 in under 6 seconds and gives an excellent A and B road experience.

It’s not the quickest of cars in a straight line but it does give hot hatches a run for the money. Although the VX does come into its own on the twisties, this car doesn’t roll at all!

Then you’ve got to ask yourself the following questions;

1. can I live without a decent sound system, cd player with only 2 speakers
2. can I live with a car that basically doesn’t have heaters leaving me freezing cold and unable to defrost the windscreen
3. can I be bothered to fill up the petrol tank up every 200 miles due to the stupidly small tank
4. can I live with always finding a new squeak or rattle?

If yes to all of the above then go for it!!

From what i read when I was looking brett it's just a bit hard to live with.

The heater chucks out stones, you can't see in the winter, easy to crash if you don't know ho to drive it, hard to get in and out of.

Prices seem to drop as soon as the cold weather comes in so people can't fancy driving to work in them in the snow.

I'd put up with it all though.

they got tiny vents for the heating up front, prob weight saving when it was built..

would suit a heated front screen, dunno if this is available, but would be a good seller i reckon!

Not sure I could live with it from the sounds of it. Not sure where the baby seat would go either tbh

If its your first RWD car, then its the wrong first RWD car...

Very tail happy, even moreso in the wet.

The turbo version really wouldn't help matters though

Buy a Corsa D 1.2 16v.....

About 2 months ago I opend up the air vents that had been closed for a good 4 weeks. As I accelerated up to motorway speed from some traffic lights I had a face full of grit and dead flys. I was totally blinded, the reason for this- Vauxhall decided not to include a filter for the air system!

It's a full on road going track car. The sills are over a foot wide so you wouln't be getting in one with a suit for work, and getting your missus to climb in one must be quite a laugh. The boot's made out of cardboard and you can only fit in one bag of shopping Though not everyone's into practicality and they are great fun cars!

they arent "very" tail happy unless you provoke it loads. they were built to stick to the track. but you dont buy a track orientated car to drive everyday. in all honesty this is why the lad is selling his as he wants something more practical.
and people getting all funny over the cat d thing is stupid as it just like a normal car having a bumper replaced but with the vx220 you need to replace the whole front clam shell

Thats the one. I didn't literally mean the ass hangs out everywhere.

If you don't treat the throttle with respect, it'll bite and bite hard, and before you realise, your facing the other way...

Thats what i meant

tbh i find a little opposite lock brings the it back into a straight line pretty easy, its not a car you can 'drift' but i dont think its anywhere near as snappy as my old mk1 mr2.

Yeah but Adam, you have an idea on how to drive.

A lot don't hence the tall happy syndrome. Pete Dennis being one of these people Donnas ex also had a tendency so spin his one, but he was also a bumpkin who couldn't drive

A big bag of shopping then, given the boot is 7 cubic feet and GRP
