The Grey one or the Black one??? Both STI's.
I must admit i like the grey one better as it looks the part more and has had a rebuild at AIS imports(good garage)
BUT i always said if i got another it would have to be black as it's my fav colour and it's nearly a grand cheaper which would pay my insurance off in one go

Yeah it's weird...
It was for sale for AGES through AIS imports who did the rebuild and was up for 8K a while ago!
Now they have done a rebuild on it but it's with another garage for 2K less might give him a call tommorow and see what's what.
Black one might be a safer bet?!

Get an evo m8 more relieable than scoobs stronger engines and gearboxs.
Ive had 2 first 1 was a uk my96 bottom end started knocking at 58k cost over 2.5k for a rebuild.
Second was rb5 no:138 blew gearbox after a remap only running 276bhp on DD cost 1.5k+ with clutch etc
Had loads of minor problems as well but they were the big bills.
I would have another cause i love them but would have to be hawkeye model.

You have good examples of both cars, have heard many a horror story of the Evolutions. Import Subaru's do get a bad name because of engine rebuilds, mainly because they have not been remapped for UK fuel, which causes them to suffer detonation due to very basic knock correction in the ECU as the they were designed to run on 100 ron in Japan. The newer models are a lot better and not so sensitive to bad fuel but still would recommend a remap for Uk fuel and always run on the highest quality possible with a bit of octane booster.
Also would invest in a knocklink system when buying an Import STi as it displays flashing lights when the engine is suffering from pre-ignition, so you can see which fuel is the best to run on.

yep MAF sensor is another common problem, can cause the car to run very lean, which if not picked up on can cause a nasty bit of rebuilding work

Cant see the pics but Im guessing the grey on is a version 5 STI 2 door? If so then its the one to have!
Nothing wrong with Subarus as long as you know how to look after them! As far as the equivalent Evo goes - The Makinen 6............I aint got a family so I dont need 4 doors thanks!

Tbh I can't really see how it looks tatty, but I would be a bit wary if it's had a full egnine rebuild. Gotta ask yourself why The Black one however looks in great condition, so I would take the safe option if I was you
