a few months ago police used there light detector tint thing on my front tints and i had to take them off as they were too dark, recently i have been looking at the front windows of police cars and there traffic cars seem to have very dark windows at the front, it would be interesting to put their machine on their windows.
if i put some new ones on and get pulled, would i be able to ask them to use the machine on their windows??

You could ask, but they would probably think your being cocky and be harsher towards you.

No that's being a bit cheeky really isn't it. If you have a complaint then you have to go through the correct procedure.
They are probably tinted differently, have you seen how dark the tints are on BMW X5's - they come out of the factory with practicly black glass on them if you ask for it...

^^ Why? Police cars are allowed to speed... (when deemed necessary etc.), they can have blue strobes etc.

There are valid reasons for them to be able to speed, and there are very obviously valid reasons for them to have strobes. Having overly tinted windows is as good as driving with a blindfold on at night and has caused a lot of accidents hence why it has been made illegal.
I know the come back to that argument would be that speeding Police officers cause accidents, but that discussions for another day.

To be honest, the police car's you was probably looking at have factory tint on the front windows, but back 3 windows are dark which makes the front's look darker than they may seem TBH.

Your legally allowed to check a police car over if they are issuing you a ticket and if you find say a bald tyre, headlight out etc then they cant give you a ticket.
I should imagine its the same for the tints, would proberly think there legal though.

What's to say they are legal though?
I have worked in posh areas of north London like Hadley Wood. I see numerous pimp-mobils rolling around, with limo dark tints on the front. The police don't care because they are law abiding citizens and not some boy racer.
Try dark tints when you're older with a family car. You probably won't get pulled imho.

The police vehicle having a headlight out WONT stop them from being able to give you a ticket.
Police vehicles are meant to be checked by their driver before they leave the yard, a bulb could blow at anytime so they cant be blamed.

Should carry a spare bulb kit. In some countries it is the law. Good idea I think.

Not really. If a car has left the factory with dark tints on it then they are legal. All cars have to be type approved for use on British roads (same as an SVA test). If the tints are dark then they must be legal.

It's not really cool to be a cunt to the police though. It doesn't get you anywhere in most cases, plus it gives the rest of the population a bad name.

i had to take them off my corsa as when they did the test it said 15% when i'm not allowed below 70% lol. As soon as he said i'm going to test them i knew 100% i was illegal.
thing that pisses me off is that theres loads of other cars around my area with dark windows and they never been stopped. And when police overtake you in a 30 (where theyr going 50 with no sirens) pisses me off!!!!!!!!!!!! and they arent on a call out.
