Just out of interest really.....
What do most people consider expensive for a car......any car, not just a Corsa
For instance, is there a limit you'd go to on MPG....say no less than 30mpg. Similar on insurance, would you pay no more than say £1500 for a years insurance?
Or is it the other way round, do you not really care what it costs so long as you enjoy it?
Just wondered......

£1500 is a lot to insure something but conversely if you're spending £20k on a car that's not actually that big a percentage of the price of buying it.
£1500 quid for a £1500 car is obviously a bit silly but normally you don't have a choice. I wouldn't spend that much nowadays as I would struggle to find a car that costs that much which I could actually afford to purchase.
Same with MPG, so long as I was enjoying using the car then its OK. There's no other way to have the engine you want.
I think its a matter of proportion rather than outright expense.

Yeh, I guess you're right.
Was gonna ask what the limit would have been at, say, 20 but i suppose it all depends on your job/situation aswell.....
Personally it doesn't really bother me, but I know a lot of people do worry about mpg and stuff.

Same opinions as Ian, although my insurance budget is £1k at most, or no more than 50% of the value of the car if its sub £1500
Managed to get the Omega insured for £150, so don't mind the 27MPG average in regards to driving it.
As far as modified cars are concerned, I don't see the point no more unless you manage to get a good insurer with an agreed valuation and like-for-like replacement. Most companies just say yeah £xxx so much more for alloys, then just write it off and give you peanuts, or replace said bits with standard.
Service costs - no matter what car, it will cost you. General wear and tear will factor in on all cars, and the conditions of the roads dont help.

well im 19, i got a 1.8si escort which is plenty fast enough for me and my missus (also 19), we pay £480 FC between us with 2yrs NCB and running costs come to £30 - £40 every 2 weeks on 300+ miles + anything like tax, mot, repairs
Obviously u can easily control MPG expenses by controlling the right foot and overall expense by biking or walking where u can and keeping the car for what it is - a luxury.
I wouldnt pay more than £600 for insurance, fully comp, and for that i could get a 2ltr astra / focus summat like that easily (in the context, do u really need more than 2ltrs considering speed limtis are 70mph on our fastest roads?)
in a nutshell, yea i definetly have my limits, but if something special came along i might break them

Had quite a few group 20 insurance 2.0l turbos myself.
Never been bothered about insurance mpg servicing etc
Horrible feeling though when you get a 4 figure bill just to make them drivable again

Name of the game though Gareth, any expensive car is going to cost when something goes wrong All part of owning such a machine, if you prepare for the worse then it's (usually) good news
