I have driven my mates 172 and I think it's a good little car.
Goes well and is quite cheap for what your getting.

Looking at a 182 next, well im looking now actually, insurance is a bit cheaper than the S3 and they look alot more fun to drive.
no build-quality in them though
was a bit put off by clarkson's review of it on top gear too!

ive got a 172 at the mo and they are great little cars!
Handling is great, can just throw it into corners etc.
Running costs are good considering the size of engine, 32-34 MPG.
Build quality is alot better than alot of people would have thought, i for one wasnt sure about the quality but i was pleasently surprised!

I have a dCi - the Clio is a nice car to drive, will take a few minutes to get used to the driving position...
They are tail happy though.
I love that colour though - same as mine

im looking into either a 172 or a astra mk 4 turbo, the astra is cheaper to buy and cheaper to insure in my case, but is it as fun, the astra will also be alot better performer with money put into it...£450 will see 245 bhp where as i wouldnt know where to start with the 172, BUT i can imagine the 172 is bags more fun...little happy car lol
anyone know about tuning the 172/182's and cost wise what can be seen?

I love my clio sport. Running costs are ok, although they eat front tyres and breaks. it dosnt really use much more fuel than my old corsa gsi/sport, like fear said about 34 mpg

dont expect a clio sport to have 172 bhp.
most sports see around 160-165 bhp and '182's see about 168-174.

172 was the best handling car i've driven!
Had it on 3 wheels and it still gripped :O didn't think it was that quick though.I had a 323i coupe at the time.Driving postion and clutch were awfull though and put me off

^^ ture mate but you soon get used to the clutch and the driving position
another thing youl notice if you drive one is the breaks, there amazing. I read an artical somewhere that reconed it would out break a 911 from 100-0. Duno how true that is but it wouldnt surprise me.

i have a 172, made 166bhp standard which is about right.
great little car, have a few common problems but easy fixes on them.
really fun car to drive, i prefer the phase 2 cars to the early ones, some say the early ones are faster tho..... not sure how true this is!

compared to the GSi, really its a totally different car!
the gsi is a fast cruiser, and the 172 is a hot hatch!
The 172 is slower, A-B might not be but straights definatly!
The 172 is more fun to drive as long as there are twistys, its hard getting used to having to rev it though as really gets going between 4 and 5k where as the turbo on the gsi was kicking in about 2500k and pulling from then on!
running costs are far cheaper on the 172!
