I am writing with reference to your advertisement on "reed.co.uk" for the position of a trainee accountant. I consider that my credentials and interests match with your requirement and would like to apply for the job available. I am ready for challenges, and would be available for an interview at any time.

Needs to be longer IMO.

I would aim for at least a 3rd of a page of A4

Too short and probably needs to be handwritten TBH (though you might be doing this anyway)

No need to hand write them these days - hardly anything is ever hand written now!

Notes? Telephone coversations? Minutes for meetings. Loads is handwritten....

Looks better if you hand write it. Your CV will be typed so they know you can use that, but a well written covering letter is good IMO.

No one really see's your own notes, and minutes for meetings are typed up or dictated anyway.

Hand writing your covering letter going to a big business does not look professional.

Type it. No one wants to try and read handwriting. Its the content that matters.

Fair play!

I just thought i'd include a cover letter, might just have the edge on people that didnt?

Thanks for the advise, but no im not hand writing it, purly due to the fact its a job agency on the internet, and it asks for a cover letter.

It was me just being lazy TBH.

THey were I.T jobs though, so it may be a bit different from an accounting perspective

Definitely type it, I can't believe anyone would even consider hand writing one

First paragraph - how you found out about the job, ie reed
Second paragpraph - a bit about you, and how you think your skills (shown in your cv) would be beneficial for the position

Third Paragraph - I enclose my cv for your consideration and look forward to hearing from you soon

yes he is one, hes done his exams and now is deciding to do something else.

though each to their own, if you enjoy the job thats all that matters.
