surely a polish and wax should protect the original paint from the sun turning it pink?

...been there done that sick of it.
The 2 pack should settle over a couple of weeks and hold it's color for a lot longer.

OE paint is 2 pack also, its just with age it fades as do many reds from many manufacturers, unless cared for properly. Hope you bought some 2 pack thinners to go with that.
