Typical idiot. Can't ride for toffee, but lets get a SS 600...

In fact, i aint gonna go there with this one again.

Good luck with the bike test. Its being made MUCH harder soon, and im gratefull for it. Even though 80% of test centers are going to probably close down because of it.

What? My mates a great rider.
He's had an RS125 for a year so he wants something bigger?

Can't ride for toffee?
Hows he supposed to get experience if he doesn't get a bigger bike?
Fair enough he could keep the RS but its his choice.

Sorry for abusing your thread BTW

Your mates a great rider, and he's riding a 125 PLEEEEAAAASSEEE... What real experience has be got, maybe a couple of years road riding around town and such?

A 125 is not a 110+bhp super sports bike. The only similarity is that they both need to be revved the hell out of to get going. SRi lad, i've been riding on the road for 8 years, and in total nearly 20 years.....

Im still learning........

Theres LOTS of other bikes to be considered before jumping on a super sports 600cc. TOTALLY different bike from a 2 stroke 125.

Toms brothers got the right idea. My friend also wanted a SS600, we changed his mind, he got an SV650S too, and agrees although its not what he wants (power power power straightline....), its the perfect bike for a first bike.

Theres plenty of 400-650cc bikes that are far more forgiving than a SS600cc. But if your mate thinks he's a Rossi, let him go for it......

But as you say, its your mates choice...

I know people who have jumped onto ss6oo's and can point and squirt but can't even keep up with a mate on a single super moto around the a roads in north wales. It's all about progression imo. Btw my bro's sv has the bottom fairing and looks muchos better and kind of ss-ish

YEah sorry cam

Tom, curvey or pointy? I still rate the SV as THE best bike to start on. Either that, or one of the older 400cc machines.

Yeah, but i prefer the S as its more sporty (toms bro has an S).

The older generation of SS600s arn't as lethal, much lower on power, but then they are heavier, more miles.

For a first bike, personnally, i wouldn't. I'd stick with something simple to star with, learn how it handles, its weight, how much more/less you can push on the brakes opposed to a smaller 2 stroke bike. Changing gears when breaking, taking the right lines etc.

AS Tom said, most SS600 owners jsut pass their tests, think they are gods on a bike, go on a motorway and "point and squirt" as it were.

If you want to do that, buy a fast car.

Bikes are all about cornering, braking, taking the right lines. If your not into that, why ride a bike at all (unless your a commuter hacker only).

VFR400 is a stormer of a little bike. About as quick as a one of the milder 600-650cc bikes, but handles great. Very advisable, but they are a little older.

Really, for a first bike, the SV has it all. Some feel let down by outright power, but its not about that. The SV is so chuckable, and yet so forgiving if you mess up. Simple to work on, easy and cheap parts, great little engine. I love them.

Its a progression, start small, work you way up. You wouldn't give the keys of a 911 turbo to a 17 yo who's just passed his test. Thats what a 600CC Sports bike is basically. Point and squirt....

Im SO desperate to get a 1000cc Vee Twin, it will come though. No need to rush. I can ride average, but really, before getting one, i need some track days.

Im petrified and yet immensly excited about riding my dads MV. I've ridden a 1000cc before, but im still progressing.

Bikes are to be shown respect. Unlike a car, if you balls up, it can cost you your life.

If your looking at the CBR you would be as well getting the vfr.

Much much much better bike. Even to sit on its a better position. And much better looking.

When do the tests change? january? Ideally id like to do mine before they change it

I know a lad that had a 125, was really good on it always doing endo's etc and wheelies.

Another one of the lads got a 600 i think, and he went on it and shit himself!

Prime example of someone that is a good experienced driver on a smaller bike, but not good at all on a bigger bike!

I did my test last May, luckly my dad had an R reg Suzuki gsx f 600 which was superb to learn on not to quick and not to slow which is what i wanted, then after 3 months of that i got the R6 which was a fantastic bike loved it very much and this year i have gone for the daytona 600 which i also love. 600 is plently enough.

Totally different machines, cannot be compared..

You get the guy on the ultra light 125 to attempt an endo on a 600cc and watch him either not get the rear wheel up, or fall flat on his face....

A 125 cannot be compared to a 600cc sport bikes. Like comparing a 1.2 8v Corsa to a twin turbo Supra....
