CYLINDER HEAD
Best cylinder head
Price: Haggle
Where: Breaker's yard
Vauxhall has tweaked the cylinder head design several times over the past 13 years. The early C16XE head (casting number: 90472726) is a cracker as it uses much larger ports, whereas the later X14XE and X16XE use smaller and different shaped ports that peg the power back. The very latest head casting (number: 90400187) uses triangular inlet ports, which work a lot better, gaining up to 12bp.

what year car will i find the new head on?

Just need to do a few tests to find out where all my oil is going then an inlet and a full exhaust should see a good figure and a nicer drive

mines a x16xe with headwork. you could get a ropey old x14 head and end up with the same spec after having work done on it.

Although surely if this head gains 12bhp the new corsa sports should be putting out more power then the older ones as standard........

dave, the shape of the ports is actually different inside, head work wont change that.....

also its not 12bhp just by bolting it on, if you port the head etc then youll see gains of 12bhp over other heads

yes mark, I agree. its one of those things though, if you are spending 5k+ on an engine build then you may get a few extra BHP over a well worked x16 head....
