I was flicking through the paper the other day and noticed a chart of all new cars listing emissions and how good to the environment they are. I thought to myself with so many campaigns going out at the moment and a massive increase in national interest for reducing global warming. How long will it be before modified car owners are targetting and they start giving out road side emissions tests. What are your thoughts on this?

I dont think itll get to the extreme of roadside tests, hope not anyway, but i think the government will tackle this problem through taxing. They make money, and give people a reason to go green this way. Crap or wot

aren't roadside tests already in force anyway?

ok i don't think they go to the extent of testing the emissions of a vehicle at the roadside but still, VOSA can fuck anyone over who isn't abiding by the law, big time

Its bollox anyway.

A car produces bugger all emissions these days.

A 500bhp Porsche Cayanne produces more emissions by itself that 3-4 supercars (read Auto Express this month, brunters 0-100-0 test).

Cows produce more methane in a day than a car produces harmfull gasses in a year...

Engines combust air and fuel which will create a gas, which is all methane is, a gas. Same thing, but much less.

The ammount of cows that there are isn't natural. Intensive farming is very damaging.

Farmings one of the worst pollutants.

Combine all the tractors, chemicals (which need to be made in a factory, which produces gasses), then all the animals etc etc...

What annoys me is that we are being taxed for 'suposedly' causing global warming....when it hasn't even been proven!! its simply a theory!

There are 2 new cars coming out in the paper, that have such low emissions, that road tax is £0, yes £0.

The VW Polo BlueMotion1 and the Smart ForTwo Diesel.

I think this is totally wrong, because it seems we are only being taxed for emissions, not the wear and tear on roads, streetlamps, signs, drainage, everything.

The government would be totally fucked if everyone in the country bought those 2 cars. They would have no road fund licence coming in, and have to find millions if not billions from somewhere else to fund the roads.

But that doesn't matter, because it's ok with global warming.

Idiots.

If everyone drove suitable car for their needs, there wouldn't be a problem.
