Hi Everyone.
I went to courtenay sport on friday to finally get my car set up on the rollers. When booking it in (over 2 months ago becuase of waiting list) i was told that they could either superchip it or re-map it. I showed interest in the re-map because it's a more precise tune up for the mods i've done rather than a generic chip. They said in a re-map they would blow and install a chip then run it up on the rollers to ensure all the timing/fueling etc is correct and make any adjustments necessary. Sounds good. Increased rev limit, better fuel economy, more power.
But on the day i arrived just before 11am. The time i booked it in for. Me and my mates sat around till 1pm until they moved it from the car park. They then plugged a computer in it, done some stuff, then test drove and brought it back on the rollers. (although at first they refused to put it on the rollers due to me having buckled my bottom pulley the night before). It made good power and torque which i was more than happy with but i was concerned how can they set up a car without firstly running the car on the rollers and then re-mapping it to the requirements it needs. Did they flash a generic map onto my ecu. I didn't see a chip get fitted, nor a pre-map power output because they didn't run it up. Even worse my rev limit is still the same and my power band is lower down the revs. It now peaks out at 6200 whereas it would pull hard to the limiter before. That's a loss of 12mph in fifth.
It does tick over better, pull slighter better low down, easier to drive around town and doesn't drink as much juice but the worse thing is they over charged me. Only an extra £35 but still. Not Happy. Just wanted to know if anyone has had any bad experiences with these Cowboys?? I went to them because they're ment to be the experts in these matters and i feel they've mugged me off. Let me know.

maybe give courtney a ring and ask them what they did?
sounds to me like a flash remap, the car would be on the rollers constantly for hours for a full live remap

Exactly what i thought. A flash re-map. Which is not what i got lead to believe i was paying for. I would of been better with a superchip which is basically the same (a generic map) but i would of gained a increased rev limit.

Sorry for late delay Dave, i've been working away up your part of the country for a while. NO they didn't sit down with me and discuss anything. So as far as they probably concerned it was a standard 1.6 which from the spec it's obviously not! I just feel like they're perhaps living on a reputation which should have long expired. Everyone thinks of Courtenay as the big name in Vauxhalls whereas they are the least professional company i've come across.

Also yes i know for the money it wouldn't be a full live map as that's mega money but it would of been nice to know what i should expect from the re-map. If they'd told me the peak power was going to come down the revs then i would of said NO to the map. I admitt it's easier to drive but that was half the fun. It doesn't start as well either. It used to start first turn always but if it stands for more than a couple of days it stalls and then runs second attempt. I wish i hadn't of had it done. Anyone got a standard ecu with chip etc. for sale??

Thanx mate. I'm gonna get standalone management with tb's soon but until then i might just put a standard ecu back in. I preffered it peaking out on the rev limiter. 137mph in fifth.

For £295 all-in did you really expect anything more than just a flash map?

No but i expected them to ask what i wanted, what mods i've done and what they thought was best rather than bish, bash, bosh here's your car back, worse than before! Some professional help would of been nice. Like i said if they'de told me beofrehand what i got i would of said f**k off and gone else where. It's been money down the drain or into their pockets anyway. Nobody wants any work done to their car and recieve it back not starting properly anymore. Especially from Courtenay Sport.

I think i'll be going Jam Sport in the future.
LoudandProud - Certainly sounds like it was loud and proud. lol. Nice clean looking gsi. They're quite hard to come by nowadays. All either be crashed, blown up or badly modified.
