I have a challenge extreme socket set, doesnt seem too bad TBH.

Only problem I had was that the Drive adaptor snapped (so that you can use smaller sockets on the bigger drive rachet) but this was replaced with a halfords professional one for a few £ and had no problems since

I would buy halfords professional, I've got alot of their stuff and I can't fault it personally, definitely worth the money.

For anyone starting out, I would advise to buy a cheapo set like that, then as & when you break a tool, replace it with something more durable i.e. MAC/Snap-On/Halfords Pro...

Be careful not to round bolts with cheap sockets or spanners though.. especially if you're using 12 point, which most of the cheap stuff is

snap on currently have a very reasonable offer on 3/8s and 1/4 drive sets. they contain deep, shallow sockets, torx bits, etorx sockets and the ratchets and extensions needed. i paid about £90 for the 3/8s one and about 60 for the 1/4. they are bluepoint which is part of snap on. come in a very handy carry case. i use them at work had no problems and they come with warrenty

I use snap on stuff, but as stevie xe has said bluepoint set i good aswell. Few people at my work using them now, there cheaper than snap on and just about the same quality.

agreed on the halfords pro stuff being good quality. the only reason i buy snap on really is because its convenient. the van comes to work once a week and i give him £20 each time to pay off the thing i bought last. when thats paid off i buy something else. otherwise id probably have halfords everything

i would hold out and buy something decent i mean i also went for the budget set at first but ended up rounding off a bolt or two and managed to break a socket thats when i thought splash out one time and it will literally only be that one time.

you might need to now and again add one or two piece's for special jobs that would be about it
