As mentioned in the other thread, cannabis aggrovated the development of schizophrenia in a very good friend of mine. It is almost definately responsible for severe bouts of depression in my old best friend although he would never admit it (strange that when he gave up for 3 months he was fine, started smoking again then started getting depressed again, yet refuses to even admit the possibility of a link ), and I know a lot of people who suffer paranoia as a result of their cannabis use, myself included. Even though its been 18 months since I gave up, and 12 months since I did any at all (I had about 2 spliffs worth in the 6 months between), I still get a bit paranoid in certain social situations, although it is improving. My sister was a heavy user for about 5 years aswell, and she is still quite affected by it, sometimes feels really stoned for absolutely no reason when just walking through town or something, almost like a flashback. Something similar also happened to Ed (Superlite), it really does play tricks on your brain.

I smoked lots when I was younger (17-23) and I dont feel it affected me, probably saved me getting in a lot of trouble infact, its far safer sitting round a mates house on the playstation getting stoned and having a laugh than getting pissed up and fighting.
Drinking has far worse PROVEN mental effects and the government dont do a lot about it.
The reason this has come about now is Gordon Brown. He didnt like the decision to change its classification to being a 'softer' drug so now hes putting his stomping boots on, his media spindoctors stir up all this so called new evidence that is really bad and then it comes out in the media, I guarantee its classification and the way the police view the drug will change over the next 6-12 months.

People that think too much about it may think they experience things from it due to being too paranoid in the first place. The only way it may affect some1 is if they already have the problem it may be slightly intensified. U cud say my mate was paranoid, but he was like that b4 he started too lol.

I dont doubt for 1 minuite that it is damaging to your health in many ways.
Fact is its seen as a socially acceptable drug, I know teachers, doctors, engineers, businessmen, psychologists and lawyers that smoke it regularly.

Yes, but in my experience, "certain people" is actually quite a high percentage of users.

And in my experience "certain people" are very uncommon.
I think its just that some people are more prone to it or sumthing

Ive got friends who have been smoking it every day for years and have no problems other than the fact they lack any ambition at all, but as I said, I also know quite a few people who have been affected by it. You're still quite young I guess, maybe in a few years time you will see the situation diferently.

They have to be very careful about upgrading cannabis due to public health concerns........... If they are worried about a threat to public health then what about alcohol? The most destructive drug, the drug that claims the most lives, and the drug that causes the most social problems is clearly alcohol.
I find it astonishing that alcohol can still be advertised - But of cause alcohol is easy to tax... so the government are not quite so worried about the negative effect it has on society.

Smoking it does harm you, however slight that may be, there is no difference in any situation unless you are superhuman
