Even better if youve claimed for a write off through direct line, basically I have been told a couple of different stories.

Info 1: That when the insurance writes off a car, it can take weeks, even months before you get the actual cheque

Info 2: That when the inspector comes out they phone through the decision and details straight away, and all you have to do then is send off your docs, as soon as they get your docs, they send out the cheque...a fews days turn around

my corsa got wrote off quite a while ago (had the crash over a month and 10 days ago), haven't recieved the £2185 cheque yet.

once the inspector says it's a write off, they will send you a letter so all that takes time

The later was true for me when direct line just wrote my car off. From start to finsh the process took no longerthan 3 weeks and that was with agrueing the price up as well.

I dont have a bad word to say about them....very very efficient

well info 1 was from a person who works for another insurance company, info 2 was from direct line, he was making out that as soon as the assessors been the only time to wait is the time in the post for your docs to get to the them, and the time for the cheque in the post to get to you

I crashed my saxo on a friday. Phoned who i was insured with(CIS i think) A man came and looked at the car on my drive on the saturday. Decided it was mullered. He told me to wait to hear from the insurance people to contact me. Got a call the Tuesday and agreed a settlement and i had the cheque the next day. They were very efficient. Shame they were so expensive really

I know of 3 cars that similar has happened to:

Quinn direct: mates car stolen, over a year later they havnt paid out or even aknowlege that he or the car ever existed, that one is with the insurance ombudsman

Quinn direct again: customers car written off, 6 months on and they are still arguing over wether they will pay out, car is in storage at £12 a day (over £2k of storage charges )

Direct line: car damaged in an accident, hire car within 6 hours, inspector viewed within 24 hours, write off within 48 hours and cheque paid out 1 day later.

make your own mind up about who the better insurer is

hopefully then, it should just be the slightly delayed time for the inspector to get here due to the volume of visits at the moment,

fingers crossed when hes been i should get the cheque quickly.

im in direct line btw, am just wondering wether to wait for the money for mine, or to source the funds elsewhere inthe meantime as i need a vehicle within the next week or two ideally

it should be, i would imagine ALOT of people are claiming atm. To save time get current proof of what the car is worth of autotrader and print the ads out and wave them in his face when he comes round. Saves time with him making a stupidly low offer

they said, glasses, parkers, autotrader etc.

i questioned wether they will just automatically give it trade price, and they said no they go off market prices, which seems fair.

quite glad im with them as others seem well dodgy

i didnt mean what a trader would sell a car at i meant what a trader would get the car for at trade price which is usually bugger all.

TBH I'm insured with Quinn, however driving a 400 quid shed, so if i was to crash i more than likely wouldn't claim as i'd prefer the ncb.

I think you need to take into account whether your likely to claim on that car.

i only lose 2 years ncb, which is 15% extra on my policy, so in my case about 50 quid
