Ok, well my car over the last 500miles or so has been running abit rough and coming back with some flat spots, even more so in 4/5th gears.
So i thought it's about time i changed over some things in the engine, just wanted to no how much / if ill notice any difference in the way the car feels and any suggestions.
So far the parts i will be getting are as follows.
New ignition leads
New spark plugs (stick to standard?)
New oil and oil filter
New air filter, something along side a BMC or similar. Since i've found out there is a hole in mine, which now makes the car 'whistle'
A 4-2-1 manifold due to mine being nearly 15 years old and showing it's age.
Those parts i will be getting since they need replacing or just a change to help the car run better. But i am looking at some other parts to make the car run better or just simply improve the feeling of the car.
Looking at the following, a sports cat, would decat but since the police now do full checks on modders around Nottingham i don't want to risk the £1000 fine for not having a cat. So how do people rate sports/performance cats? any difference or really worth it?
A new inlet, seen alot of people posting about the cheap ebay inlets and they are within my price range...so how are these compared to standard inlets etc? how hard are they to set up etc?
I got recommened a cam and vernier but im unsure about these since i've heard there is alot of work to get them running correctly or to make them worth while.
So...
If i get those part the 1st one's mainly how will it effect the running of my car, hopefully running abit smoother but shall see i suppose!
Also, the car is a 1.4 sri 8v. (C14NV?)
So with the above then a couple of extras or suggestions should it feel abit more responsive / work better threw the gears and revs.
My car is fully stripped down on the inside atm, yet my friends 1.4 sri 8v which has a full decat system and air filter eats mine in 4/5th...which is why i feel abit sluggish. My 5th gear gains around 2mph over 4th atm it also idles rather rough which isn't a good sign.
Will also run a TSP fuel system cleaner threw the car once everything is on and changed. As it's nearly been 4000miles since some last went in
Anyother question, how to people rate remaps once things like inlets/manifolds have gone on...worth while investment?
Cheers for any help

Quick question there, things like performance plugs and/or performance ht/igniton leads are they worth it?
Or just stay with standard or just slightly uprated?

TTT - Another question...
You've seen the list of parts im after on this topic what would i be missing if i was to give the engine a re-vamp.
Btw doing a test on how much fuel my cars eating, with the hole in the air filter and i believe damaged manifold.
Atm i ran the car until petrol light came on and stayed on, then reset the clock to 0 and put £10 in around. Cars a 1.4 sri 8v...should be around 60miles give/take to £10? currently on 44.3 miles and on red lines already. Ill guess at 50/55 miles before the petrol light will be on and stay on...does that sound right? cars not being driven at high revs as well.
