Got caught in December with a headlight out and was given a defective rectification slip....

Posted it off in December... had a letter in June saying I hadnt completed it with a court date. I pleaded not guilty and it was adjorned.....

I wrote a letter explaining everything and that id sent it in, which they acknowledged receipt of.

Come the 19th of June I get a letter with my court date, the 20th of June! I couldnt get off work as it was too short notice.... and called to tell them so.

Had a letter this morning and have been issued with a £400 fine.

I've seen people with no insurance and no tax get off cheaper than this....... and ive done fuck all wrong and get lumbered with a £400 fine with no details of how to appeal. Just an order to pay it within 10 days....

And get this.... letter is dated the 6th of July.... but postage stamp is marked the 12th of July... leaving me 4 days to gather £400!

Fucking joke this country is

They are fucking useless...a while ago I got done for speeding, accepted it and showed up at the police station to show the rest of my details. The police didnt send confirmation of this to the court so I ended up with a letter saying I was now banned for various reasons!

Got it sorted in the end and got a letter off them confirming it was their fault, and it would now get taken back to court to have the points and ban removed. Anyway turns out it still hasnt been done as my license is flashing up as a banned driver still when checked by copper

Useless badgers!!

you can reclaim costs if you win.

Yeah exactly what I thought!

Each force varies but a VDRS in my area is a slip you take to a MOT test station who stamp it if the work has been done and then you take it to a Police station! No posting involved?

This was Gwent police that issued it to me.....

I had to post it to Maindee. I had a producer at the same time which I took into Cwmbran, but they wouldnt accept the VDRS and said I had to post it to Maindee police station!

Everything was done in the required timeframe.

The problems I had with the VDRS slip were unreal. I took it to 3 different MOT test centres and none of them had their embossing stamp anymore as they had been destroyed or were out of date.

When I asked the garages how the hell I was supposed to get it stamped, they couldnt answer. Everything is now computerised and there is no embossing involved anymore!

I visited Bettws police station and the clerk at the desk spoke to the sargeant and said to write the details of the MOT test centre that checked it and to return it to Maindee which is what I did.

Still, I honestly cannot believe how they can justify a £200 fine and £200 court costs? A woman last week got convicted of drink driving and was ordered to pay £60 in costs!

same happened to me, but with Chorley magistrates.

Got pulled for a bust tail light, got it fixed, sent all the documents (couldnt get time off work so posted it all recorded delivery)

Got a letter about 5 months later with the outcome of a summons/trial which I apparently did not attend. Ended up with 3 points (MS90) and also £260 in costs/fine... And with it being 5 months, I'd moved house, and no longer had the postage receipt so there was absolutely nothing I could do.

Well fucked me off, but this was just over 4 years ago so those points have come off my license now.

But it did make me have a fond hatred towards Lancashire police, ESPECIALLY those in or around Chorley...

surely if you sent it off within the required time frame its nothing to do with you anymore.

Are they saying they never got the VDRS?

or if they did say they got it, what wasnt complete?

They are saying that they havent received the VDRS slip.

When I first had the court summons the clerk told me to send a letter in explaining everything which I did (and sent it recorded) and I also asked for a response.... and I got nothing but this fine.

Harsh. Not sure what else you can do now it has been to court, this is the reason they shouldn't tell you to post these things as you have no comeback

I did have them by the balls tbh

I had a letter from the garage that checked the car and the receipt for the bulbs that were replaced.

They were having a good go though at still trying to prosecute!
