I know its been asked many times, but is there a rough date on when the old search function will be back, i.e. search by username etc. It was quite handy, would be nice to have it back

We've still to make a decision on that.

There are a number of solutions ranging from turn it back on and deal with the complaints when stuff fails to throw a few grand at another server to replicate the database and run searches without affecting peoples ability to read and post.

I'm favouring the second tbh but its money and geek time and while we're OK on the first, the second is precious.

you can search by username if you go via aomeones profile.

Go through the member list to find the username and click the find posts icon - it'll bring up all the posts made by them!

Very slow when you do stuff like specify a search string, plus a username, plus a range of dates.

We could speed up the read but that would make writes (posting) slower.

More people post than search, hence that decision.
