This might be a bit controversial but, i'm curious.

Opinions and comments are welcome, but don't get this thread trashed, you monkey's

I voted 80mph as i think it is an acceptable speed to drive at whilst not being overly dangerous as its a motorway.

Acceptable safe or acceptable do it within the current law?

I generally don't exceed 95 ish due to the consensus that anything above that is a ban.

If it was legal to do so then a lot more - there's no reason I can see why under the right conditions you shouldn't be allowed to go faster.

Right conditions being a moot point btw.

Dont generally go over 80 unless im sure in myself I can get away with a short burst of speed.

Got caught last year doing 85mph overtaking a row of HGV's up a hill, couldnt see over the brow of the hill & there was a camera van sat on a bridge at the top - kind of put the message home about where & when to speed!

speed limits need changing, i mean how long has it been 70mph? to fucking long.

I usually do 80 or 90 depending on conditions.

I personally agree with the whole German Autobahn malarky.
I think you should be able to drive up to a speed you're comfortable with.

Within the law, i'd say 90.
Personally, I cruise at 90+ under decent road conditions, with care obviously.

Voted 80 mainly because cars are alot safer than they used to be when they set the 70 limit.night time when no one is around i think the limit should be 90

It should be flexible. Those matrix signs could be put to good use.

Also people that sit in the middle lane not overtaking anything need to be set on fire imo

Today, I cruised past an unmarked police car. The officer didn't really mind me going past at 85... unless i'm awaiting a letter

Im with Ian, I tend not to go much above 95 often due to legal concerns (ie above 100 = automatic ban) but I think anyhting up to that, dependant on prevailing conditions, is fine in the right car with a good driver behind the wheel

Makes you wonder if its worth buying a car with high top end speed, too easy to get points/banned

with the standard of driving i tend to witness day in day out anything more than 70 would be unsafe, howevwer as said earlier the conditions play a big part.

I put 100mph, thats depending on weather etc. I don't see why it can't be higher on occasions though, I did about 120mph for a good 15 mins the other week on the way home from Trafford Centre, hardly any cars about, dry roads, car felt completely comfortable + I was always on the lookout for anyone doing silly manouvres.

could they not bring in a system where by say a new driver 1-2 years cannot drive over 80 2-3 90 4-5 100 etc, would mean that there would be a complicated system to check all the speed limits and ids on cars but would be better, or something like advanced motoring but like a skid pan day so that you have some sort of extra licence that enables you to go faster but have more sence of what could go wrong how to try and conttrol it etc iv voted 80 as its a good speed imo

I find it annoying when people don't get out of my way. I also find it annoying when you have to undertake somone and they speed up to prevent you getting past despite putting up with them doing 50 in the outside lane for about 5 miles.

I just wish people know how to drive on the motorway properly, acceptable speed wouldn't be a factor if the slow cars stayed in thier place.

At high speed, a skid pan "licence" means nothing.
I doubt you'd be able to control your vehicle much once you've lost it at speed.
