If i was to buy a car which has had a cat c crash... what does it actually mean??? Ignore my ignorance, but i havnt got a clue

It means the car has been written off in an accident.
A Category C or D write-off is one that insurers consider unecomonical to repair but one that could, given enough time in the workshop, be repaired and returned to the road.

I think it means it can be repaired safely, but the insurence company have decided its not worth the expense (ie the repairs would cost more than the car)

damaged but can be repaired, should be ok to buy but you want to view the car very very carefully (take someone who knows about cars)

wouldnt pay that much for a sport with cat c,wouldnt off thought its worth that much either?

It was the passenger rear quater the damage, so what do i need to look for? creases by the spare wheel etc?

If it was a cat d then the price wouldnt be too bad for for a cat C thats too pricy imo.

if it was just the rear quarter thats nothing really id just check the b pillar.
id still only offer £1500 as the cat c will affect the value.

yeah do that, but I'd check the car very carefully in the light, maybe even jack it up and check everything underneath is OK. If you are happy wave the 20's in his face and see if he bites

Agree with will, check it over throughly, all the chassis boot floor etc if anythings not as it should be then best bet would be to walk away. if not chuck a wad of 20's at his face and run before he counts them

I got mine for just over £1100. So i wouldn't dream of paying that much for a Cat C.

new outer 1/4 panel is really just a skin like a wing for instance altho welded on. not structural. wouldnt worry about it tbh.
check the gaps between door and 1/4 and around lamp and 1/4 to tailgate.
if ur happy with the gaps then check the bottom of the b and c pillars for bad repair. look for scores under the paint.
check the colour
if ur happ with the above and can get it for a gd price go ahead but i would def reccomend that u strip the 1/4 trim of the inside and make sure its well waxoiyled up in behind incase some muppet hasnt done it and the joints will rot like fuck

As a Cat C the car would of needed to be repaired and then taken to a qualified veichle examiner so he can class it as road worthy, it will also have a certificate.
Insurers probably won't charge you anymore to insure it, also if you do buy it when you sell it you don't have to declare it's been a Cat C.

2300 and shes yours, 39k with fsh
Thats way over the top for a Cat C! Id say paying 1500 was too much aswell.
It will be harder for you to sell it when it comes round to it, and also wont be worth as much.

You don't have to declare it as a Cat C if you are the second owner after the repair is done

But by law when it comes to sell, if someone asks if it has been in an accident you have to say yes dont you?
