i'm doing quantity surveying in glasgow just now. part time courses are good and work like an apprenticeship. it takes five years of uni though while working. only the money is good, 2nd year and i've got a company car all my fees paid and 18 grand a year. I have heard of people who's starting salary is around this though. if you are serious i would recommend you to go to a large contractor, rather than a subbie as you get a broader range of experience.
