Just been out in my mates corsa and im gutted to say its faster than mine Its a 1.4 8v with an Pipercross Cat-back exhaust and an Induction kit! But it does seem really quick!
Didnt realise that the 8v Sri's rev to 7000

The redline is at 6500 but mine does seem to go round to 7 before bouncing.
If I'm racing I usually go to 6 and change anyway. I can't stand bouncing off the limiter.

I got the 8v sri 93 plate
Surprised me how quick it can be if your in the correct gear @ the correct rpm.
Around 2700-3000rpm is where it kicks in for me...
The 16v is 8bhp more then the 8v when new so should have better responce with the lighter valves..
I got a full decat system and 4-2-1 manifold to fit soon so hoping it will add some power in the mid range.Want to do head gasket and cam belt 1st to be on the safeside..
I only have had 90mph from it as there are no roads around hear
that was 5th gear around 3.5-4k rpm, so a little left to go..
I think for the age some of them like mine are there good and powerful.
1.4 16v was 90bhp and 8v was 82bhp...
New saxos westcoasts are only like 75bhp and clio around the same...

They are a decent little car, my friends got a 1.4 8v with a 4-2-1, custom exhaust and filter, compared to my standard and his pulls alot faster in 4th and 5th.
But they do ok

16v is 88bhp and there's nothing in it on the road. I've had both.
Oh, and the rev counter must be wrong.

my old 8 valve used to rev right round to 6900 before the limiter came in, alot of people used to comment how rapid my little 1.4 was, and it was known to keep with vtr's on the straight, bends and off the mark up until 100,
mine was really torquey all the way up to 100mph but after that nothing ever happened, all i had done to mine was cat back system, and airfilter, i had also turned my ron plug around and ran it on super unleaded, this in turn rased the rev limit itself, a little vauxhall secret,
the 16v's dont seem as raw with the power delivery unlike a midly tuned 8 valve does, just my personal opinion
my old beast

I agree with the above statement, mine pulls until 100 then stops!

also agree, my old sri 8v was quite quick, ported/polished head, catback system and ind kit. seemed to rev almost to 7k, probs 6800k.

i am currently doing up my 8v and have done the same mods as you sandsy 'nice car btw'

anyway i am a bnig fan of the 8v engine easy to work on loads of room round the bay plenty of torque less things to go wrong plus they are solid!!

The 8v's are shit hot - when i was looking for a corsa Sri 8v i couldnt find a decent condition one as i didnt really wanna be doing work to it! But i saw a minted/ ex vscc owned car and went for that! But now the work wouldnt bother me and i wish i had opted for the raw 8v! If my car gets wrote off/stolen i will be buying one!

I race a L reg 8v with bodykit and it was quicker right up me arse through first gear (probably didnt launch well) and he had to back off in second before he rammed me. Then next set went for it again an i pulled off properly hehe, and he was right up my arse first 2 gears but then when it got to 80 mine kept pulling and his didnt! And that was with a stupid bodykit! Cracking simple engines like everysays!

the 8v will be slightly more responsive an quicker off the lights but mid range an topend the 16v will have a better advantage. not much of a differance in em tho
