head is off, part stripped....
Exhaust valve guides are gone, oil is litterally running down the guides

valve guides :- teh bain of my life recently 
They were behind the blow up of engine no567 on the Corsa track toy. They broke up and fell into the combustion chamber - mashed between head/piston/valves.
By the sounds of this problem its just wear and tear thats ovaled the guides

these ones lasted aprox 80k+ miles..... i'd say that isnt too bad

Yeah, that was the main failure on the Tuscan!!! 4 litres of oil in 1000 miles! 
Got harder ones put in mine seeing as tho the originals only lasted 12k!

Cheese I think! 
One of the many weak points on pre 2004 engines were the valve stem oil seals!
