What are all your views on religion? Ive called myself agnostic for years but the last few months been thinking about it a bit, and realised that I'm definately atheist. Ive just started reading "The God Delusion" last week, and theres a great quote in the beginning of it that kinda sums it up for me...
"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful, without having to beleive that there are faries at the bottom of it too?"
There is a great documentary that was on channel 4 not too long ago, which you can watch online here if you are interested.

On the subject of religion, why do they teach this crap in school? Warping the minds of young people.

I'm fairly open minded about religion. I don't believe myself, but I don't see a problem with others having faith.
I do think that using religion as an excuse for violence is wrong though, and I don't believe that you can genuinely see the text of the religion wrongly and think it's telling you to kill, I think that's people twisting it enough so they can do it and still claim they're doing it because of that, if that makes sense?
All religions are the same anyway, so I don't see how one can say another is wrong. They all have the same basic plot outline in their holy books.
It definitely shouldn't be banned, and it's not the root of all evil. People are.

They don't in mainstream schools here either.
They teach about all religions, not preach one.

I don't believe it warps minds.
The only minds it warps is the ones that would have been warped by soemthing else anyway, same as computer games and films being blamed for killings.
I was tought religion from the 1st day of school to my last and I'm not a religious fruitcake.

Watch that documentary, theres a bit on there that was actually quite scary - they are teaching kids "science" through religious books, taking about genesis and noah's arc etc as if it were real.
Apparently 45% of the American population, that's 130 MILLION people, beleive the universe is less than 10,000 years old. To me, that's absolutely shocking. What about the dinosaurs with their fossils dating back 65 million years, and signs of life before that? Do they just choose to ignore it completely?
Another quote from the documentary was some guy saying that in this world, "good people do good things, and bad people do bad things, but only religion can make good people do bad things." It's closed minded brain washing on the grandest scale in my opinion, and is a major obstacle in the advancement of the human race.

That's the thing, humans have an innate sense of morals. We understand that you should do unto others as you do unto yourselves (or whatever the saying is) but you dont need religion to tell you that!!

No it doesn't, the sorts of people that do these things would have found another excuse if it wasn't for religion.

Chances are those morals stem from religion years ago.

I dont agree with that at all. Many of them were not "bad" people, but have been completely brainwashed into believing that what they are doing is actually God's work. They believe it so strongly that they are willing to sacrifice their lives and the lives of others, thinking that it will be a direct route to whatever their particular religion's concept of heaven is.

The origins of religion are fine, its what has happened since then that's the problem.
Like people taking holy books literally for instance.

In my own personal opinion no, i suppose there is no way to prove that though without the use of a time machine though!
