What happens if you go over the mileage you declare not to exceed in the year? What will they say if come the time you ring up and tell them you are going to, or have exceeded it.

I did this. They make you pay extra. I had to pay about £300 for going over mine.

They don't...unless your far to honest for your own good. I don't go over the mileage for the Nova which is 3000 a year, I don't do over 300 a year so no problem there.

If you go over the limit your excess goes up if you have an accident.

300! Eeek. They would only find out if you make a claim and they check the clocks. You have to declare the current mileage and sign a form to say you wont be exceeding the mileage you stated when you take out the policy. I said 3000 miles as I dont expect to be using this car all that much when im at uni, but worry in case it happened.

I signed a declaration saying i wouldn't go over 10k. next year renewal came through, wanted me to sign a mileage declaration form for the new year. I signed it and wrote the mileage without thinking. Got a letter a few weeks later saying i owe them £300 or so fo going over the mileage. Doh.

£300 seems really excessive, how much did you exceed the mileage you declared?

about 5-6000
It says in the terms that if you go over, your excess will go up by x amount. So i didn't think anything of it.

There is no way for them to know what you've done unless you tell them?. Unless your MOT documents are ever used with the mileage on in the event of an accident claim which I very much doubt.

So, if you'r car is brand new (or less than 3yrs old) you could have a low mileage policy and nobody would ever know

Maybe
The question is normally estimated.
I estimate correctly, if I go over that it's not my fault.
