Is it thermostatic? What temp does it open at?
Generally what temps does your car run at with it? Oil Temps.
Did you do a before and after comparision of temps if you fitted it yourself, or in your ownership?

xe/let have thermostat in the sandwhich plate, couldnt tell you when it opens though.

i have no idea how you can get really high oil temps (leagaly) on UK roads..... for 15mins at 6000rpm in 3rd on a motorway maybe

gave the oil cooler a long test today in quite warm weather....
the plate seems to open around 65-70 which is lower than i though it would be
Overall oil temps whilst driving round town etc (reading diff's off std gauge before and after) are down by about 10deg. From just under 90, to just under 80, maybe more like just over 70.
Out on the road with some spirited driving - from around 100-110 down to about 88-90.
Seems to be working well then. Will test it on track tomorrow night. Could only get about 4-5 laps in before the gauges was starting to go north of 110 on Monday eve

im sure on the xe/let it opens at 94 deg c
my xe always used to stay bout 95 ish so i think thats right

Did a fair bit of research on them when I had the P1 - Seems like they will drop the temps by roughly 10 degrees all round! Was just the oil pressure drop (roughly a bar) that always put me off! All depends on how short you can get the pipework tho.
Must have for a track car tho, may be overkill on the road but seems like yours is working well! Just got to make sure you keep within the hot operating temps of the oil tho!

thats what i'm thinking about just now..... is it working too well 
Didnt notice any drop in pressure - but i did an oil change at the same time with slightly thicker 10w60 synthetic.

Mine doesn't do a lot, Can put my hands on the pipes after some enthuastic driving and they'll be warm.
After a peg up the motorway I expect they would be pretty warm too.
I couldn't tell you when mine opens, but I know it's functional.

Yeah, that was my other worry! Not too bad if you get one with a thermostat - But if you dont, it takes so much longer for the oil to warm up from cold I think theres more risk of damage there than at working temp! I dont know if you use Ian at Opie oils, but he really knows his stuff when it comes to this - Im sure he mailed me a list of different oils optimum hot working temps - I seem to remember most of them being around the 95 degree mark (but I could be wrong!) If the cars mainly used for track tho, I think even with a cooler you will be getting that sort of temp!
When we were installing them on the P1's there was about a 1bar oil pressure drop all the way through (so idle would drop to around the 2bar mark and load would drop to about 5.5bar) We found that the shorter the pipework used, the less the pressure dropw would be (easier if you remote mounted the oil filter to a better spot in the engine bay!) May be worth throwing in the same oil you were on just to see if there is any change (and just cos Im anal and would like to know myself! )

i kept the filter to cooler fairly close. Most other GTR's have them on the other side of the engine
|
