Id advise doing it on something that interests you (something to do with cars, etc.) as that way you will be more inclined to put more work into it and also you will know more about this product.

That should give you a bit of an area to look for ideas, as for what exactly....I dunno!!

make an airflow meter that measures the amount of air your car uses as you drive. like fuel consumption but air consumption ???

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Design a pond filter that doesnt cost stupid money, you'd make a small fortune.

Ive seen designs recently for a home made protein skimmer, which is basically a pipe with an exit pipe going off it, and airstones in the bottom. Bubbles with DOC (Dissolved organic compoinds) go up the tube and out hte top to waste, whereas the water goes back to the pond through the side exit pipe. If you could make a more aesthetically pleasing version that didnt look like a drainpipe and a plastic bottle, then I reckon you could sell them for £100 each.

If you could make one of those with built in airstones ready to connect to an air pump, height adjustable main pipe, weighted bottom and a proper connector to waste (either solvent weld or hosetail fiting for flexihose), and it looked decent, then I reckon you could charge around £100 as I said

^^^ looks very similar to something I used on my old tank to take water down to the wet/dry filter under the tank, was called a Durso Stand Pipe.

^ picture above looks like something that should have been at woodstock

but no you should make an oil drain tray with castors on it so you can get it under the car and remove it once full without dragging it getting oil everwhere, oh it should also be easy to clean and oil resistant so after a few uses its not covered in thick oil

In response to the 'Do you recycle' thread, build a corner kitchen unit carousel that is actually a multi-compartment re-cycling station for various types of waste. It should also accomodate regular waste, with a lid for smells. The glass compartment should be reinforced and the plastic and can ones have an integral crushing mechanism.

This is the type of thing but all of these are food or utensil storage

http://www.chimerakitchens.com/acatalog/Corner_Unit_Storage.html

You need to do something like a swing-out bin. B&Q sell these if you want to see one up-close, this one is in the States but same principle and a good pic.

There is even some governmental input in to your scenario.

http://www.parliament.uk/documents/upload/postpn252.pdf

Should do OK grade-wise.
