just about got the new 1.6 engine running properly. been wondering that it didnt really feel any better than the 1.4. for some reason i never checked it before just assumed it was right but just checked the engine number and found out i have got a x16xel pretty stressed out right now im gonna have the hassle of either ripping the engine back out or gettin a cylinder head. going to have a fun phone call i think

thought a x16xel was a 1.6?
whats different about that engine?

xel has a 1.4 head bit down on power over an xe

any one know how to tell the difference between x16xel heads and xe ones from the outside without taking it to bits

i know that theres a difference in the upper inlets between the xe and xel however other than that i dont know any external differences

heads arent that different, its the inlet and the ecu that makes the difference.

so on a proper 1.6 inlet and ecu and everything what kind of bhp will it be down over a xe

tbh in standard trim 1.4 1.6's are not that far from each other in performance, your only talkng couple of car lengths to 100mph maybe slightly more and high top end

inleted with full exhaust would th head not start to restrict a bit
