Ok looking at getting a motorbike - only a 125 for now.
A few questions:
- What are they like for journeys that last 2 hours? make you sore?
- Can you listern to music while driving a bike i.e headphones
- Who is the cheapest to insure.
The situation is this:
My 106 gti has LOW miles and i dont want to keep driving home(middlesbrough to derby ) in it.
A motorbike would be cheaper than the 106 for petrol, probably quicker to get home and also means i have a second form of transport incase i decide to work on the 106 for more than one day.
What do you think?
Also what do you do on this CBT test? any manouvers? could you literally drive a bike for a few mins and then just do the test or is there some serious practice needed?

Depends on the riding position for the sore back and wrists etc. Somehting like an RS125 would be worse. A crosser style is better to ride for long journeys. Head phones you can listen to, but i'm not sure on the law for these. Bennets are quite cheap, or Carole Nash.
The CBT is really easy. Just a bit of poodling around a car park, a bit of theory and then a test.

The RS125 is an excellent bike. Easily capable of 120MPH. Very chuckable. The only thing is people don't look after them. As long as they are maintained properly and run on decent oil then they're good bikes.

Someone is selling one on here, quite nice looking too.
I dont think i will have the money by then but i know somebody who repair bikes which i can get cheap off him.
Anybody knwo of any good cheap insurers? only really need third party fire and theft. - in 21 any idea on how much it would be on a 125 on average?
Also, I have a really tough jacket which i would wear ( not leather but its strong ), the helmet i was gonna buy anyway as i will use the clio on the track so need a helemt for that. Boots im not sure on and gloves?

Try J&S accesories for clothing. They are quite cheap.
Bennets and Carole Nash are the two best insurers IIRC.

2 hours on a bike in 1 sitting, you will get a sore backside without a doubt.
Don't scrimp on bike clothing. Skin burns at 1" per second on concrete. You do the maths, i'll show you the pictures of some who decided to get "cheaper gear" or not at all....
HJS is a good cheap brand for about £100 for a bash hat.
You can listen to music yes, but above 70mph you will get wind noise which can give you tinatus (?sp) so your better off with ear defenders. I've done it, found it harder to ride and takes your concentration off the road. Not really worth it.
S for insurance, like cars, ring around. Bennets quoted me £700 for my Bandit. I pay £244 FC with protected NCB with Hastings Direct. Like car insurance, ring around, play them off against each other.
Oh, unless your jacket is leather, or a very strong skid proof material, it'll burn through. Your choice, few ££ or your skin. For me, its a simply choice really.

You can't fail your CBT. It's training not a test, but if you are shit they'll make you come back for another day.
As for music, you can get noise reducing headphones which are good because they also act as ear defenders

I agree. I grated my ankle flat.

If anything, its worse, as instead of just loosing skin, you get all the material that burns into your skin, which causes infections, and it has to be pulled out.
As if you wouldn't be in enough pain as it was

When I did my ankle I went to the infirmary.
She said she needed to get the gravel out. I was expecting tweezers, not a fooking scrubbing brush That hurt, lots.

btw even if you have your car license you still have to do your bike theory test.

^ correct
I meant about the theory. Car licence and CBT is what you need for a 125 on L's

can you imagine if you fell off and hit the road on your front, your old boy would be grated away to nothing.

I've got a 125 RS unrestricted on L's.
To be honest, if this is your first bike, I wouldn't bother aiming to pass your test in a week of doing your CBT. It'd do you more good to learn to ride, be safe and corner.
I know a lot of bikers who have like 1000 CBR's and they blast it down the straight and then wimp out at the bends.
You have to do CBT (which is easy 1 day riding) to be able to ride with L plates on a 125cc or less (12 bhp restricted).
I (and most people) ride their 125cc unrestricted, 2 strokes will make the most power (compared to 4 strokes), but will be high revving, small power band and use oil.
My RS is roughly 34 bhp good for at least 110 mph, accel fairly quickly to about 70 and then after it's a bit of a crawl. But handle superbly, i.e. any bend, any speed you can go round it.
I wear a leather jacket, and jeans. Jeans are a bit - but I'd definately not ride without the leather jacket.
I plan (at some point) to do my bike theory and then do a intensive course and bike test. Then get a 400. (even if I do direct access). Then later on in a year or so get a r6 or something.
I paid only £250 tpft with bennets, with no bike NCB, no full licence and no years riding.

Nasty, but during my dads accident he "caught" his ol boy. Swelled to twice the size and went black and purple

1. The journeys are ok, depends on what ride style your at, i had a supermoto, so i would sit up right, it was ok for a while, but if your getting a RS125 (aprilia) then it would be annoying after a while (imo)
2.Listening to music-you can but be careful with police if they pull you over i think you can get done for it, they will say that youcant hear traffic etc (which is aload of crap plus its not that loud when riding)
3. I went with Lexham Insurance, they were pretty good jsut get an online quote from some insurers then decide for yourself
