Check exhaust for white smoke and puddles of water in the pipe. those are signs for headgasket, but from what you described it seems it has gone

Doesnt always need to be a creamy substance under the filler cap. Depends on where abouts its gone.

Get it tested mate to be sure, its either free or very cheap to get done

although it does sound like it very well could be to me

if you know some one then yes they will do it for £250, they dont have to work at vauxhall either.

My mates dad is a very good mechanic and will take ANY job on for half price that a garage will charge for the whole job.

My head gasket has gone but i didnt get it fixed. instead i used k-seel for £10 wich seems to have sorted it out. That was a few months ago now. I wouldnt trust it to last for much longer though, especialy in the hot weather.

thats where the gaskets normaly fail, on number 4, aslong as the head is okay and not corroaed to the compression ring it would be okay

can you list the parts that are going to total over £600 please

this is why main dealer is last resort only. ive never heard such a ridiculas suggestion. ide say 2 hours labour on most engines and £100 in parts tops!

i would say 500+ including parts and labour, depends how bad the head is. if it needs skimming/pressure testing or anything will cost more, and whilsts its off they got to time it up anyway so wack a cambelt and new pulleys also a oil and filter change and anti frezze change

When I had my head changed, it cost about £100 for parts and £250 for the job to be done.

don't know where some of the people in this thread go. i went to one of my dad's mates.

cost me £650 to fix my head gasket, skim head, buy lots of new parts for it etc etc.

labours the killer. people must think you just pay for the parts and like 20 quid labour or something
