Been toying with getting a car for trackdays.. Now i have got two cars in mind for this

1) E30 Bmw 318is - 140 bhp, rwd, handles well alledgedly - not that cheap tho £1500ish

2) Mk2 Golf GTI i know of one going cheeeeeap - a wider variety of tuning goodies available for these - but not rwd..

thoughts opinions, and of course your suggestions for a car

Golf would be cheaper to fix & get spares for???

Although E30 bmw is fun, id imagine it would be a hoot around a track.

Ive owned both a Mk2 8v gti & 325i BMW - never tracked either though.

Porsche 924, only 125bhp but they have near perfect weight distribution, galvanised shells and are cheap to fix, shouldn't be too hard to get some more power from either, bargain prices as well.

Volvo 340, put a 1.8/2.0 16v Renault engine in it (bolts straight on to the bellhousing) lower it. Great weight distribution again as it has the gearbox at the back, like the Porsche, and they cost about 300 quid to buy

106 XSi or AXGT would be a good choice too, small, light, cheap

Get a 360 then, that's Volvo engined, not Renault engined, so you can use the 2 litre and 2.3 Volvo turbo lumps from the 740/940
