It's never going to drop. You want cheaper road tax, get a car with lower emissions.

later cars i think 02 onwards are based on emissions
interestingly its cheaper the tax an 02 megane coupe 2l 16v then it is an 01 plate, same car, same engine, different regulations

i wonder how much the DVLA spends chasing non tax payers, compared to the revenue they are loosing.

They seem to do good job of fining me when i forget to tax/sorn my car when i'm away!

Fined about 300 before. Even though i tried to explain the situation to them that the car hasnt been used for X amount of time bl bla bla... Robots. I'd just bought the car/sent the V5 too.
They towed a car out of a parking space and i had to pay about 350 to get it back

Nothing. I forgot to SORN my car, well, actually, thier website doesn't work and neither does thier phone system. I am far to busy to que in a Post Office for 45 mins too, plus I was about to go on holiday, so my Corsa never had it's SORN re-newed. It's been such a long time now I can't be arsed to do antyhing about it. Not heard anything about it. I better be careful though, some jobsworth at the Sun will probably grass me up and dedicate a page in thier newspaper to me.
