that is not a minor dent and would easily be seen, cant see that being poped out by a cold denter but if it needed to be painted only looking at around £200 anyway!

Another mate reversed out a drive right into the side of it, the whole side needed put back straight & whole side was painted. Was done at an approved repair center so maybe why it was a bit more expensive, obviously if you can do bits yourself & have it pained cheap it would be less!!

That must be some pretty old Clio if that was a write off. My car wasn't written off with the state it was in

The damage to my car was worth about £1800. My excess was £350, meaning the insurance company paid out about £1400. I was lucky.

Yup, Cat D doesnt need a VIC check, and also Cat D's arent usually bad, cause they dont need checking for safety so they must be easy repairs.
My old Corsa was a Cat D, didnt bother me in the slightest.

the vic test is to check vin numbers match up to issue new log book it must be mot d before it can be done to show its road worthy .its not to check the repair work on the car and an insurance company wont ask for it even on cat c cars

p4ul did you tell them it was a cat write off at all?
'most' will ask to see an engineers report, certainly pretty much all main insurers, direct line included
