I recently bought the 360 game Saints Row off ebay. I didnt read this in the description, just scrolled down to see if he accepted paypal :

quote:
Ebay Seller
I accept paypal but ask the buyer to cover the costs which equal 3.5% of the total final price. otherwise cheque or bank transfer are fine. Please do NOT pay by paypal until i have sent the final invoice so the winner can decide if this is their chosen method of payment. Do not pay prematurely as this will lead to confusion. Thx and happy bidding.

So, not knowing he wanted this I paid him 10 seconds after auction ended, and I thought job done. But he emailed me asking for the extra. I thought I would check this up on the guidelines with ebay because I'm quite a moderate user of ebay and havent come across this being done before. The guidelines here (http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/listing-surcharges.html) say:

quote:
Ebay Help
Sellers may not charge eBay buyers an additional fee for their use of ordinary forms of payment, including acceptance of cheques, money orders, electronic transfers or credit cards, except as described below. Such costs should be built into the price of the item..............

and
quote:
Ebay Help
Not permitted:Electronic Money Services: Sellers who accept electronic money services as a means of payment for an item purchased on eBay may not impose a surcharge. Electronic money services include, but are not limited to, services such as PayPal, Nochex, FastPay or Moneybookers.

So i emailed him back saying i wouldnt report him if he just dropped his extra charge and sent me the game. However he is sticking to his guns and reckons its happened to him before and he won etc etc etc (i think he is just trying to lower my hopes).

What I want to know is, am I right in understanding he cant ask for this surcharge, even though he offered bank transfer and cheque, becuase as a rule I dont use these systems on ebay and ebay themselves dont recommend them?

Cheers (and sorry for essay )

Dan

Ebay says he can't do it, so you wont have to pay it

Ebay wont bend their rules for one person, he should of added extra to cover it.

End of, theres no here nor there about it

He's just doing his blag to try and save on the paypal fee's this is agains the ebay rules and he would not win any paypal dispute. Wait a week and file an item not recieved dispute or pay the extra few pennies and get the game.

O yea I have, i did it this morning after he emailed me back saying he didnt care if i did it lol.

To be honest I was going to wait for him to give me positive feedback and the transaction to be over with and then I was going to report him, whether I said i would or not.

Hey again, update on the situation. It was reported on 31st May and its now 5th June. Ebay said they look into cases within 24 hrs, but they still havent got back to me.

So ive reported it a second time. Has anyone got any links where I can just contact ebay generally, i hate going through this process of not being able to contact someone personally....

Cheers
