If you go to Europe and see what you think is a Nova, it'll be badged as a Corsa. What you also think is a Cavalier, will be badged as a Vectra.

astra mk1 an 2 were kadett D an E, then for mk3 astras the europeans decided to just call em astras aswell

Nova in spanish means the same as nova does here, referring to stars. However it is very similar to "no va" which means doesn't/won't go. 
PS - Pajero (as in Mitsubishi Pajero) means wanker in Spanish
