Our cruise recently attracted a bit of bad press in a local newspaper which was full of innaccuracies. So i decided to reply. Read the article in the link first to get the idea:
http://iclanarkshire.icnetwork.co.uk/eknews/news/tm_headline=angry-residents-want-brakes-put-on-%2D%2Dx2018%2Dboy-racers%2D%2Dx2019%2D%26method=full%26objectid=19176649%26siteid=50144-name_page.html
I think i came accross ok?
The email i sent:
Dear Sir/Madam,
I write to you regarding your article on the 23rd of May. The link to the article is below.
http://iclanarkshire.icnetwork.co.uk/eknews/news/tm_headline=angry-residents-want-brakes-put-on-%2D%2Dx2018%2Dboy-racers%2D%2Dx2019%2D%26method=full%26objectid=19176649%26siteid=50144-name_page.html
I am one of 3 people that run the www.ekcruise.co.uk website. Your article irritated me slightly due to the many innacurracies in the forementioned article.
Our site organises the cruise, however obviously we cannot be held responsible for anyone elses actions at the event. We actively encourage people to drive carefully and considerately at the event.
Our cruises take place once a month. The last cruise was on the 17th of May and all in all it was a great sucess. The cruise started before half 7 when your article states it started at half 10. I left at Half Ten to head into Glasgow City Centre and the carpark was getting fairly empty by then.
Another inaccuracy I spotted was where it was claimed 50 cars were in the carpark when in actual fact it was nearer 150. I also fail to see how the noise can annoy residents? The cuise takes place in an underground car park which is next to a dual carraigeway and there are no houses in the close vincinity.
For many of the people at our events their car is their pride and joy which they work hard for and pour lots of money into. For other people this may seem strange but in my opinion it is better than going out every weekend to the pubs etc as at least when money is spent on a car you have something to show for it whereas with alcohol/fags/drugs you have nothing to show.
These events have many purposes. They form a place where people with similar interests can meet up and look at one anothers cars. These events also help people from the community to bond. I for one have met alot of people at the cruises and have made alot of new friends.
The olympia carpark does seem to be the best venue for our event as it fufills all our requirements. It is undercover so useable even in poor weather, its is not in the middle of a residential area, it is easy to find and it has the capacity needed for all the cars. The fact is if the carpark was closed off then it would not stop the cruise. It would just move the so called "problem" to a different location.
These cruises happen up an down the country. There are many other cruises in different areas such as; Falkirk, Ayrshire, Stirling, Edinburgh, Hamilton and Glasgow. I travel to many of these different events to take pictures for the ekcruise website. People travel from many different areas as it has a reputation as an enjoyable cruise with a good atmosphere and little trouble.
The next cruise is likely to be a charity event where we will raise money for a worthy cause. In my opinion some of the elderly residents just like having something to complain about. I mean im sure they would rather a group of car enthusiasts meeting in a carpark for a few ones one thursday of every month than the drunks and vandals who regularly terrorise the community.
I would appricate it if you could reply with your thoughts on this.
Thanks
M.

i woulf take out the line about elderly people liking the excuse to complain.
although its a fair point. it makes you sound a bit yobbish and takes away some of the proffesionalism the rest of that letter has.
the more composed and organised the letter sounds and the better you put across your point, then the more trustworthy you come across in the eyes of other people. which at the end of the day is what you want. if you can convince people that the cruises are safe and properly organise then you maybe able to win them over.

Mark, i dont mean the be rude here, but you have just stated a few facts that cruise's should not really brag about when they have bad press.
The basic guidelines you should always follow is:
a) if all cars are toghether the police can keep and easy eye out on cruisers
B)Never admit to how many cars you have aquired
C)never say that because another area has a cruise its ok for you to have one.

thats a really crap attempt at return for my comments mark
people who own corsas are chavs? what a stupid statement, many elderly people and young drivers have corsas for first cars because they are practical. I too had a corsa for a first car because it was practical. I also modified mine, and yes if i had that same corsa now I would be a chav

can you state what makes cruises for chavs?
There were a few at our cruise i admit. But only about 25% dressed like chavs. We had no trouble at the cruise. Only annoyance we had was wee chavs on bmx's flying around and asking stupid questions.

why not go to a well organised event, in a location that isnt likely to have trouble, or attract the wrong people, not a seedy carpark somewhere at night?

I'm not sure e-mailing the paper is going to do you any favours TBH Mark. Telling them there's actually 3 times the cars they thought is a bad idea.
Making a fuss about it is going to draw more attention to it.
If you've had no trouble from the people who attend, or the police, why bother arguing with the paper?

agreed organised events are better.but then they dont happen that often, they are usually not close too where you live, and are usually out in the open so if it rains its called off or its just a crap day.
