The V5 engine, comes in 150 and 170ps variants.
what are the differences, just software or any internals?

Won't be anything internal I'd imagine. Just usual differences. ECU software, MAF, TB/inlet and cams.

Please elaborate on why they are poor, gotta love CS, statements without evidence as usual
Test drove a bora V5 today, wasnt fast but wasnt expecting it to be but was very smooth, quiet and refined.

They use more petrol than the V6 and don't really offer any performance over the 1.8T with the same power.

be best to try for a v6 4motion mate or similar, think they are near 200bhp and very nice to drive.
v5's never seemed to catch on, dont know why, never driven one myself only drove the 4motion.

Ive had 2 1.8T cars before, both remapped as well, just fancy something different. But tbh i was not impressed with the V5 Bora today, very smooth & refined though.

They are just not very good engines. They aren't a true V engine and they don't really offer any gain over the other engines in the range.
The V6 would have been smoother, and the 1.8t will probably be better on fuel.

Yes, and a VR6 isn't strictly a true V6 either.
