Does anyone work part time in any trade that relates to, or gives them the chance to work with cars? If so, what do you do?

I got a job at the local Audi dealer maintaing the showroom and forecourt cars, and eventually was allowed to do driving jobs (delivering/picking up cars, fuelling cars etc). Got to drive Q7's, TT's, S3's, S4's, S6's etc which I think was rather good considering I was only 20.

I've worked at car dealers since i left school at 17.
Dealers often look for weekend cover for things like showroom hosts, were your basically one stage down from a salesman.

I never thought my job was shit, I love working with cars. It depends on your mentality and how much you actually like cars to enjoy mixing hobbies and work.
And what kind of wage do you expect for a part time job? I was on £5 an hour and was happy with that, would get the same in most other jobs.

they might be shit Ed, but it gets your foot in the door, and with a bit of luck and if you aren't a total numpty, that can be very under estimated. I spent 6 years working apart time in a shitty off-licence, i was doing the same job when i left than when i started. Joke of a company. A kid i went to college with, worked at Mcd's part time working his way up as supervisor etc, did a business type degree and managed to get on placement at McD's head quarters in London sat in meetings with the head of Europe for McD's taking about potential new products etc. He's a bright lad, will probably get offered a job when he's finished a degree.
