I am installing windows onto my pc, i have deleted the partition and creating a new partition

windows starts installing and whilst i leave it to install it comes up with a blue screen

I thought that i would delete my old illegal windows and format my pc and start again fresh with a genuine version of xp

totally baffled now though

thoughts and suggestions, Needed

Did you do a quick format or full? Sometimes it's better to do a full format, takes longer but just an idea?

Blu screens while installing windows could be caused by just about every single component in the system.

Any specific blue screen?

just says stop then five or so codes string'd along

not blue screened now for abit

i think it may have been my hd's coz i unplugged one an

ffs it has jus finished deleting a partition an instanlty it reboots then straight back to windows setup start screen

must be the hd buggered or summat

as i was saying i unplug one Hd an i dont get blue screen if i have both connected i get blue screens

Well that would point me initially to hd, cable or controller depending on the way things are set up.

tis a budget pc with a setup which was initially to store music on and to play music from.

used to have 1 hd an 1 cdrom

upgraded to 2 hd and 2 cdroms

would not have thought cdroms would conflict

one hd is for OS the other is for music only

would i be better with one massive hd to do everything

just scared incase i loose all my music, thats my only reason for having a seperate HD

try installing the operating system on the 2nd drive, it might give you the option to format the first hard drive whilst ur at it, or it'll just do it anyway like mine did :anger:

Partition and format the hard disk by using the DOS prompt with a Win98start updisk etc.

Might bea good idea to pop the old msuic harddrive out, or at lease unplug it first - you know no music is going missing then!

ave you got a floppy drive ( i know, but worth a stab!)?

Why partition and format the disc using a win 98 startup disc?

Why not either do it from an xp install or use recovery console

The XP install disk loads a load of shit before you get that far, one of which might be causing the BSOD...

make sure you have no usb devices plugged in except ya mouse and keyboard, my mate tried to install xp with his adsl modem plugged in and it kept blue screening, took him 2 days to figure it out lol.
blue screen is normally memory related
