They do look at them, its based on points, if you have a rubbish one i doubt they would even give you an interview.

I got the marks i needed and got in, no interview.
I don't think most uni's care what you are like as a person if you are smart enough.
It shouldn't even matter at all imo.

None of my lecturers knew anything about me when I started. No of my media past etc, which is all in the personal statement.
Still worth writing it though

depends on the uni, if you go to a shit one like i did then they want as many people in as possible. If you go to a good one or the course is full then they will probably look at it then.

I know I easily had the grades for my Uni (3 A's I thank thee!) but they still asked me in for an interview and went over my personal statement, etc. in that!
Went to Manchester Uni BTW.

Personally, speaking from the perspective of a recruiting lecturer, I would look badly on an application if it missed detail deliberately or blatently looked like you skipped bits.

Write about how good you are at working in a team. That's an original thing and won't make you look weak as piss.

Team player, yeah they won't have read that before
End of the day, if you've got nothing to say then you're stuck, but I would expect someone at HE level to have a very clear idea of career or at least technical interests.
