Dads vectra was at vauxhall after the timing chain snapped at 50k.
Engines totally fucked
Price estimate from them was £1200 for new pistons, valves etc and car should be ready for the end of the week. Price is give or take £100 or something. My dad was expecting it to be much more. After the works done going to try and fight it and see if we can get anywhere with getting vaux to pay for some of it

Sounds like plenty of damage there. Was it on the motorway or something.
Are Vaux meeting you with the costs if it's only that much out of interest?

Vectra is Y reg, least this way my dad knows it shouldnt happen again, and will be better for selling the car.
Wasnt on a motorway or anything, my mum was driving it and she didnt hear any bangs or anything, just cut out then the police had stopped and tried turning it over. Tossers
There is no way the chain shouldve snapped and its due to an oil jet. Alot of 2.2's were recalled and a new, better oil jet fitted so that the chain actually lasted to 100k which is why were going to try and get something from vauxhall. When the car was bought from vauxhall by the owner before my dad there was a Network Q check carried out for previous finance, mileage check and every box is ticked apart from the recall check. Surely this shouldve been done?

damage would already have been done anyway, turning it over wouldnt have caused anymore damage

as far as I know vauxhalls position on failures or damage due to a missed recall is that its the customers liability to get it done, someone I know had a similar thing a while back.

Surely replacing it with a known good replacement engine that's been given a good going over is a better and cheaper idea? I wouldn't trust any garage monkey to rebuild an engine.
