Went out last night with my rear seats out, spare wheel, and another few bits which didn't weigh very much. I must say, my little 1.0L 12V felt a lot faster. What I found out though, is that all that weight taken out from the back, along with standard suspension, and 13" wheels, the car becomes very slidey.

This is was the first time I had ever driven without my spare wheel, and never again!

We were heading home and I went round a round about, maybe a little too fast, and my front wheels just slipped away from me and I hit the curb, followed closely by a mate who also hit the curb after me.

I had a flat tyre and buggered the wheel. Lucky enough my mate - who drive a corsa - had just left us, so we gave him a phone and he came down and gave me his spare wheel to fit.

Ironic or what?

Now I've got to get a new wheel and tyre, and take the old one too the dump.

so in short, you removed some weight from the car, drove it faster than usual, lost control on a roundabout and crashed?

sorry but

Basically, yes. Although I'm being honest when I say I wasn't going round it all that fast, my front wheels just slid away from me.

The point in this, is to let people who that standard suspension, 13" wheels and no weight in the back isn't a good combination.

And to always keep a spare wheel...

I think removing the stuff didn't actually affect the handling that much as the car still understeered. You were just going too fast.

No, they aren't high performance tyres, and I admitted I was in the wrong.

I 180'd my corsa round an island in the rain the other night, this prolonged dry spell caught me out. back end just slid out and I ended up facing the other way.

I was going to fast for the conditions mind.
