Have a set of weber 40 dcoe's lying about.
Complete with linkage, pressure reg etc.

And was thinking sometime in the future fitting them to my 1.6 16v engine, i'd just need an inlet, and some form of ignition management(megajolt being the cheapest option)

But im just wondering if the gains are worthwhile for the effort? lol
With well setup carbs, and a good ign map i dont see why power gain wont be too far off that of a throttle body system(possibly 10ish bhp down on that)

Cheers

If you've got them laying around, it's worth it.

With standard cams and head you'll see about 140-150bhp if it's set up right, where you'd see 160-165 with TBs, so it's not too far off, and it'll cost you less.

The only problem is bulkhead clearance, you can't use an angled inlet manifold as the fuel bowl needs to be level.

Ok cheers Robin.
I like the sound of 140/150bhp, gains would no doubt with more with some 288 cams or something.

Will keep a lookout for a 2nd hand inlet, fook paying SBDs prices, lol.

You'd want to keep the cams quite tame TBH, something like a 270 at the most, because you couldn't have the rev limit to get the best from the 288s, the carbs wouldn't flow enough fuel at 9000rpm

As for the inlet, tuning.co.uk do them for about £130, or it might be roadrunner motorsport... there's an ad in Total Vauxhall either way.

Aye, a big problem with carbs, giving a good low end sacrifices top end and vice versa.

I could go for full bore top end power tho, lol.

Hmm, might be better off selling the carbs complete with my old 8v inlet etc then.
And making/buying a mantzel type box, keep reliability of injection.
