just flicking through an old max and thought i quite like these... it states price range between £4400 - £6200 and 1.8 turbo / 156bhp / 0-60 = 7.6, is it referring to this model?

as i like them the most much cooler than the newer ones imo

The R has a different map on it, engine wise it's the same so both will remap to 200bhp but the R runs 10psi to acheive 180bhp and the normal cupra runs 7psi to acheive 156bhp. Same turbo's, same everything but different map on ecu.
The R has Seat Sport embroided seats, same seats in both but the cupra has 'cupra' written all over the cloth.
R has a different suspension setup.
R has 305mm Brembo's, the cupra has 280mm bosch i think.
R has a different engine cover.
R has oil temp and volt gauges in the cubby hole infront of the gear stick.
R has OZ Seat Sport 16's.
There was only 75 R's brought into the UK, not many left now though.
If i was you i'd get a normal cupra as the difference aren't worth the extra cash imo. The only thing that you'd want from the R is the brembo's which you can get for £500 from Badger5.
i can't be arsed to type more.

I was looking into getting one of these at Christmas. They benefit really well from a chip and a remap (50bhp in some instances). Check out Bigboystoys website

Not really. If I were to sell mine i'd ask for less than £5k and mine is perfect.
I paid £5750 nearly two years ago.
Great cars, still love mine.

Well look on pistonheads, the prices are coming down but they are still selling for £5k+, over 80k miles will be less.

No chip is used, it's as flash map which is put on via the OBD2 diagnostics port.
Big boys toys deal with revo i think which is a very popular remap as it's know for being very aggressive in the way it delivers power, the jabbasport one is just as good but alot smoother. There are other maps out there but these are the only 2 i'd have.
A remap and suspension transforms it into a whole different kettle of fish and you find yourself playing with much more expensive newer hot hatches for less than £6000. Plus they have all the luxuries inside, the only thing i think is a bit of a let down is the fact it has a tape player in the dash! You can put a hu in the dash but tbh i haven't seen one that looks good, so it's not the best car to have a great sound system. But that is a very minor thing that you can get around!

Well if it's in good nick with less than 60k miles you'll easily make your money back on it!

Remap should see 200bhp. KO3s from a 180bhp vag lump (not cupra r), FMIC, 4 bar fpr, exhaust and panel filter and mapped to suit should see nearly 250bhp, other options are IHI conversion which will see 320bhp, or garrett GT2x or GT28 should see in the region of 300bhp, TBH anything over 250 will just be wheels spin! I drove a 230bhp KO3s car and that was perfect.

They do hold their value but as they are now getting older there are more high miler ones about that you can pick up for a bargain, low milers will still fetch in the region of £6k.

But there are hardly any differences, you'd want to get it remapped anyway so that will put a normal one to 200bhp.

i sold my cupra for 6.5k in november with 22k on the clock, wish i kept it but wasen't practical for uni car parks, but i bought it for 5k - so they are bargains out there just have to be very quick. only thing i hated was the handling. and although french, i would get a 172 over a cupra now. John
