I've been going past this garage every day since March 2006 and hes had a V reg Bora on the forecourt, no idea on model but its still there now! He knocked £400 off it the other month and when I went past this morning it was down to £2995. It makes you wonder how these places make any money, he clearly doesn't sell cars and who would want a car thats sat for a year, not that an unsuspecting customer would know!

A garage near me has a 525i or a 530i Sport Touring E39 BMW, was £21,995 when it first came in the garage.

It must be 2 years down the line, it's up for £15,995 it has never sold because although it's a lot of motor, it's pretty basic. No sat nav, no sun roof etc pretty much just a standard Sport 5 series.

I bet you can pick up E60's for that money now!

i've always wondered this, but then thought about the best cars they had there making the maximum amount of profit therefore allowing them to come down drastically on the prices of other cars.

But this 5 series was bought 2 years ago. All the cars in this garage are pretty much high milers, that have been sourced from lease companies etc.

I bet they won't make much money on that 5 now.

Sometimes cars are'nt easy to sell. We have cars sat around for months, just no-one wants them. Not much choice but to keep dropping the price till they go. We had an Astra GSI for well over a year not too long ago, nothing wrong with the car just no-one wanted it for ages.

Depends what they paid for it Marc, they'll still be making money, and sometimes selling a car for a loss is better for business than having a car sat around on the forcourt for a year.

There was a place round the corner from my old work sold cars, never seemed to shift many & some cars sat for a long time, I often wondered how they made a profit or if it was a cover for something else

because they pay below market price for cars they take.

There biggest earner is finance though.

think how many people are willing to pay more for a car they can get today and have it on finance.
