They are virtually identical, except one has a pointed end one has a flat, I trial fitted it and the emlight came on? though the seal wasn't on and wasn't screwed in completely, and revs were slightly erratic.
any ideas if it will run properlly?
Im only assuming it was changed as this was newer than the previous one

You have to use the right one.
As the shape is cast into the throttle housing too( so the shapes match)

well, I've fitted it and its running like a treat, 900 revs exactly with no movement. em light came on because I had the valve on upside down so wasn't sitting right
