Was waiting for this all to be resolved before I made a post on it...
On the morning of Sunday the 15th of April, my brothers bike and my 'older' bike were stolen out of the garage by some scally. Both bikes were very decent, my older bike was a Trek and my brothers was a Specialized. Both bikes had XTR mechs on etc so good spec. (for those that know)
Anyway my brother was determined to get them back and kept checking in the local ad mag and ebay. Ill be honest and thought it was a lost cause. But thankfully my brother persevered and discovered his bike on ebay a week later! He was very relieved that he was onto something, so he contacted the police and reported his previous crime number etc and explained that his bike was now on ebay. The police requested that he contacted the seller and to ask for a viewing, therefore obtaining his address which should be then passed onto the police.
He did so, the seller contacted him back saying he could come down tommorow (Tuesday 24th April) at 6.30pm if you can make it. Turns out it was down Mansfield at J27, so not too far away. Straight away my brother got in touch with the police and notified them and they said that they would ring him back. Tuesday dinner time came, still no phone call, 5pm came, nothing! So my brother went down on his own and pretended he was interested etc, double checked the frame number just to cover his back and everything matched. Told the seller he would have a think about it and make a bid on ebay. The seller agreed and off my brother went. Parked up a few miles away and rang the police and explained the situation to which their response was "we will send someone out within the hour, were a little busy". This infuriated my brother even more as he wanted to strike whilst the iron was hot.
After waiting for 2 hours, 4 police officers were dispatched as it turns out the seller is known for being a bit violent. The seller and another man were arrested and the bike was retrieved AND my old bike too! Result!
Just thought that I would share the experience with everyone incase anything similar ever happens, and its great news too!

Nice one!! At least you got a result. It's typical that you have all the info, but the police are too busy......
I had my wheels stolen from my Mongoose outside my house a couple of months ago. I still haven't seen the beggers though.

mine was stolen about 5 years ago out of our garage, smached some small windows in and managed to open the doors from the inside.
Police did fuck all really. There had been a load of bikes stolen around the village at the time and everyone knew who it was but the police couldnt do anything without proof so never got it back.
Was insured though so got a nice big cheque to get a better and newer biike!
